What a Plumbing COC covers
Hot water installation (geyser): pressure valves, vacuum breakers, drip tray, isolator switch. Cold water terminal fittings: anti-syphon and flow rates. Waste pipework: traps, falls, vents. Back-flow prevention on irrigation and pool top-ups.
When you need one
Property transfer in Cape Town municipality. Some buyers, insurers and managing agents in Gauteng request one even where not legally required. After major plumbing work — replacement geyser, complete bathroom remodel, new build sign-off.
What it costs
R1,500–R2,500 for an inspection and certificate where the installation is already compliant. Where defects exist, remediation is quoted separately. Most domestic remediation runs R2,500–R7,000.
Who can issue one
Only a registered person under the Plumbing Industry Registration Board (PIRB) can issue a Plumbing COC. Always ask for the issuer's registration number — it should appear on the certificate.
