Solar is one of the biggest single purchases a homeowner makes — and the market is crowded with operators who'll be hard to find when the system underperforms. Here are the eight checks that separate a proper installer from a risk.

    1. They're a registered electrical contractor

Solar ties into your electrics, so the installer must issue an Electrical COC. If they can't, they're not qualified to do it compliantly.

    2. They handle SSEG registration

Grid-tied systems must be registered with City Power. A good installer does this for you.

    3. They design to YOUR usage

A proper installer reads three months of your bills and sizes the system to your real consumption — not a generic "5kW package".

    4. Quality equipment with real warranties

Tier-1 panels, a reputable inverter and a quality lithium battery with genuine warranties — not no-name gear that's unsupported in two years.

    5–8: the rest

A written quote; clarity on who actually does the install; a workmanship guarantee; and genuine recent reviews. Vague answers or a suspiciously cheap quote that skips design and COC are the biggest red flags.

    Frequently Asked Questions

Check that they're a registered electrical contractor who issues an Electrical COC, that they handle SSEG registration, that they design the system to your actual consumption (not a generic package), use quality tier-1 equipment with real warranties, give a written quote, and have genuine recent reviews. The cheapest quote with no design and no COC is the biggest red flag.
