The saving is dramatic
An LED downlight draws around 5W versus a halogen's 50W — 80–90% less power for the same light. In a home with 30 downlights, that adds up to hundreds of rands a year, and because LEDs last for years you also stop the endless bulb-replacement cycle.
It is also a safety upgrade
Halogen downlights run extremely hot and have been linked to ceiling and roof-insulation fires, particularly where insulation has been laid over the fittings. Cool-running LEDs remove that risk entirely.
Why not just swap the bulbs?
