A new oven or hob is exciting — until you realise it cannot just be plugged in. A stove is one of the heaviest electrical loads in your home, and connecting it safely is a job with real consequences if done wrong.
Why a plug won't do
Most ovens and hobs draw more current than a standard socket is rated for. They must be hard-wired to a dedicated circuit with the correct breaker and an isolator switch nearby, by a registered electrician. (Some compact ovens are plug-in, but a full stove or separate hob-and-oven needs dedicated wiring.)
Its own circuit, sized right
Because it is such a heavy load, a stove needs a dedicated circuit sized to the appliance. Sharing a circuit with other kitchen loads causes nuisance tripping and is not compliant.
Can your board take it?
Usually — but an older or full DB board may need a spare way or upgrade to add the stove circuit safely. We check capacity and quote any required work before connecting.
It must be certified
