A gate that won't open, or an intercom that crackles and dies, is more than an annoyance — it's a security and convenience failure. The difference between a reliable system and a temperamental one is almost always the power and wiring behind it.
What gate automation needs
A reliable electric gate needs a suitable power supply, a motor and controller, a backup battery so it works during load-shedding, and correct, weatherproof wiring. The power and backup side is electrical work; the motor mechanics may involve a gate specialist. Getting the power and battery right is what makes a gate dependable.
The load-shedding weak point
Gate motors run off a backup battery that load-shedding wears out fast — often within a year or two. If your gate dies the moment the power goes, the battery is usually the cause (see gate motor faults). A healthy battery and clean supply keep it working through outages.
Intercoms too
Audio or video intercoms integrate with the gate so you can see and admit visitors. They need correct low-voltage wiring and a reliable, ideally backed-up, power supply so access and security continue during load-shedding.
