Older Johannesburg homes have character — and, very often, wiring that predates modern safety standards. These are the faults we find again and again, and why they're worth fixing.
No earth-leakage protection
The big one. Without modern earth leakage, a fault that should trip safely can instead cause a shock or fire. Adding it (usually via a DB board upgrade) is one of the highest-impact safety fixes.
Old fuse boards
Rewireable fuses instead of breakers are a sign of an ageing installation that lacks modern protection. Upgrading to a proper breaker board with earth leakage is standard.
Aged wiring
Cloth or rubber-insulated cable degrades and becomes brittle and unsafe — a candidate for rewiring.
Too few sockets & DIY additions
Extension-lead overload and years of unqualified additions create overloaded circuits and hidden hazards. Proper dedicated sockets fix the first; an inspection finds the second.
Get it assessed
